Meet Arlene Driscoll, AMCAW Volunteer

Sep 26, 2024 | Meet Our Volunteers

Did you know that AMCAW is managed and run by a large team of volunteers? All metal clay artists, they share their professional skills and energy to help AMCAW create and bring you more programs, tutorials, and fun. We thought you’d enjoy meeting some of these fabulous volunteers – and perhaps become a volunteer yourself!

Arlene Driscoll, Team Lead for the Volunteer Support Team, started creating in metal clay around 2011 when friends joined the Metal Arts Guild of Nova Scotia and convinced her she had to try it. She has been a metal clay artist ever since, spending many different studio sessions with those metal clay friends (Pam Feindel and Barbara Clow, plus a few more). Her favourite metal clay experiences are these studio sessions, where she lets her imagination run wild.

Now Arlene teaches an Introduction to Metal Clay class, and continues her own artistic journey with classes in silversmithing, lapidary, wire wrapping/weaving, faceting, glass fusing, and opal cutting.

She joined AMCAW three years ago and began volunteering this year. She enjoys helping to spread the word about metal clay, and meeting so many talented artists from around the world.

Arlene is now retired after a career which involved retail, printing, accounting, hospitality, and non-profit work. She and her husband spend most of their winters in Quartzite, Arizona (U.S.) where they belong to a local rock and gem club.

Arlene’s past experience also includes serving on the pit crew for her husband’s late-model stock car racing team, as well as handling the PR for the tour, the souvenir trailer for the tour, and serving as a scorer!

In her AMCAW volunteer role as team lead for the Volunteer Support Team, Arlene helps new volunteers rapidly feel comfortable in their roles creating programs and support for AMCAW members.
