Meet Jayne Roth, AMCAW Volunteer

Jun 26, 2024 | Meet Our Volunteers

Did you know that AMCAW is managed and run by a large team of volunteers? All metal clay artists, they share their professional skills and energy to help AMCAW create and bring you more programs, tutorials, and fun. We thought you’d enjoy meeting some of these fabulous volunteers – and perhaps become a volunteer yourself!

In 2013, Jayne Roth was at bead store in Florida and saw some beautiful pieces of jewelry in a case there. She inquired about pricing and was told that they were not for sale: they were the works of students from a metal clay class there.   Thus began Jayne’s journey into metal clay artistry.

Jayne believes the first class in metal clay that she took was the most important to her, as it was so life altering. She enjoys teaching metal clay to beginners, which she does at different venues in the Baltimore area.

Jayne is currently collaborating with a very talented pen and ink artist who is designing line art to be made into texture plates for Jayne to use in creating their “Silverware” collection, to be sold exclusively in a gallery in Baltimore.

With a background in art direction and advertising, Jayne is a perfectionist. She has developed a knack for editing her own jewelry photos. What better than to share this skill with other jewelry artists? So, at MCAS in 2019 when Martha Vaughan asked her if she would like to volunteer for AMCAW, Jayne signed up!

Jayne is a member of the Marketing and Communications team, where she manages the monthly cover competition for the AMCAW Members Group, and also of the Member Engagement team for which she edits all the photographs in the AMCAW tutorials.

One thing Jayne loves about volunteering for AMCAW is the fact that she has been working directly with all of her Metal Clay idols, artists who authored the books on her shelf!

Jayne finds herself intrigued by the AMCAW tutorials, as she edits the photos. She is not given the steps, only the photos to edit, so she tries to guess what the steps might say as she works on the photos. It’s a type of challenge that she creates for herself.

Jayne’s past professional career experience was in retail advertising for major establishments. As an Art Director working directly with photographers, she developed an eye for visual perfection. She currently considers herself a jewelry artist, photo editor, alcohol ink artist and an instructor. Jayne’s hobbies include gardening and cooking. Her favorite pastime is reading books to her 3-year-old granddaughter in Costa Rica, where she can see the book on her iPad.

Jayne has a collection at Highlandtown Gallery and the collaborative “Silverware” Collection (mentioned earlier) will soon be available at Zwiebach Creations. Both are in Baltimore, MD. Jayne also teaches several different workshops at Highlandtown Gallery and in her home studio in Reisterstown Maryland. A new additional venue is Milton Manor in Monkton, MD where Jayne will sell and conduct metal clay workshops.

Jayne’s website is www.blindblissjewels.com. Aside from selling jewelry and workshops on her website, she also offers jewelry photo editing services and tips for photographing your own jewelry. Jayne can be reached at jayne@blindblissjewels.com.
