Did you know that AMCAW is managed and run by a large team of volunteers? All metal clay artists, they share their professional skills and energy to help AMCAW create and bring you more programs, tutorials, and fun. We thought you’d enjoy meeting some of these fabulous volunteers – and perhaps become a volunteer yourself!
Sara started her metal clay journey in October 2015 with a one day taster course at the London Jewellery School, taught by Anna Campbell. She had been working with beads and was looking for something more challenging and creative. She continued playing with metal clay as much as she could while working full-time, doing online courses with Tracey Spurgin. During Tracey’s dichroic glass and silver clay course, Sara learned how to fuse glass, and that was a life changing moment.
She quickly became addicted to fusing glass to create cabochons for her metal clay, and started to supply some of her metal clay friends with fused glass cabochons. This led to writing an article about glass fusing for Making Jewellery magazine, followed by establishing her business Fused Glass Cabs, along with a Facebook group for her customers.
Sara’s favorite metal clay experiences are attending in-person conferences, either as a student, or as her Fused Glass Cabs Ltd. persona.
These days Sara is working towards her Art Clay Level 3 certification to become a Senior Instructor. She has also passed Camp Metal Clay’s Foundations Couse 101, taken with Helen Drye. Sara is currently teaching beginner classes in London and starting to write tutorials for metal clay projects. She runs the Tool Ho’s Metal Clay Group on Facebook, along with the Fused Glass Cabs Ltd group, which she says is her alter ego.
Sara joined AMCAW in 2022 and volunteered to help with SINTER 2024. Sara currently works on the Member Engagement and SINTER 26 Teams.
Her favorite thing about being an AMCAW volunteer is “being able to help in whatever capacity I can; the people; and the whole AMCAW family”. She is looking forward to Metal Clay Live and helping to plan SINTER 26.
Fun facts about Sara: She is extremely sociable, has a skull obsession, and is a self-proclaimed sugar addict, especially when it comes to chocolate.
