Meet Stephanie Chavez, AMCAW Volunteer

Nov 26, 2024 | Meet Our Volunteers

Did you know that AMCAW is managed and run by a large team of volunteers? All metal clay artists, they share their professional skills and energy to help AMCAW create and bring you more programs, tutorials, and fun. We thought you’d enjoy meeting some of these fabulous volunteers – and perhaps become a volunteer yourself!

Stephanie’s metal clay journey began at a massive trade show called CHA, where she first discovered this incredible medium while talking with other mixed media artists. Curious and excited, she dove into research and discovered that Sherri Haab, a renowned artist, lived just an hour away. Without hesitation, Stephanie signed up for a class with Sherri. She was instantly hooked! The very next day, Stephanie bought a kiln

Soon after, she took a certification course with Patrik Kusek, and that experience was truly a turning point. His guidance helped shift her path and gave her the direction she needed to take her metal clay journey to the next level.

At the moment, most of her focus is on creating for workshops and classes, moving from one event to the next. While Stephanie loves sharing her skills, she’s realized she needs to carve out time to create just for the joy of it: no deadlines, no expectations, just pure creativity!

Stephanie is taking the lead on the Guild Support team in January, is on the Metal Clay Live team, and will also be on the new Instructor Benefits team. She is also the Virtual Assistant for AMCAW and works with all teams performing administrative work.  Being involved as much as she is in AMCAW, Stephanie feels honored to have a front-row seat to everything that’s happening. But she has to say, she’s especially excited for the inaugural Metal Clay Live event—it’s going to be amazing!

What motivated her to volunteer? Stephanie is pretty sure she joined AMCAW right away and started volunteering shortly after. She began on the Guild Support team because she wanted to help foster a sense of community within the organization.

The best thing about volunteering for AMCAW? The people! Stephanie has met so many incredible people through AMCAW who have become good friends. It’s such a supportive and inspiring community!

Stephanie Chavez teaches metal clay classes from her home studio in South Jordan, UT, online, and at events across the United States. Recently, she taught a workshop at the SINTER event in the UK. To learn more about her work or upcoming classes, visit her website at www.StephanieChavez.com.
