Golden Sunshine Marilyn Cook
Golden Sunshine back Marilyn Cook

Pendant
2.5in (6cm)

Inspiration
In crafting the golden sun piece with dichroic glass and fine silver, I aim to celebrate the unity of all living things in our world. Each element of this artwork symbolizes our shared essence beneath the radiant embrace of the sun. As the sun smiles upon us, it reminds us of our commonality and shared experiences, transcending boundaries and differences. Through this piece, I seek to evoke a sense of warmth, togetherness, and the inherent connection that binds us all together under the encompassing light of the sun.

Techniques
I fused some dichroic glass and picked out the lovely gold one for the piece. The cab was my inspiration, and it grew from there. I cut out and dried the layers and the added each of them, except for the first layer around the cab itself.

My inspiration of the piece just naturally unfolded during the process that led me to the final creation.

The fragile handmade snakes were of course, the most challenging, but a few failures just made me more determined to complete the piece.

Juror’s Comments:

The features of this pendant design are a commendable balance of shape, pattern, and a good variety of texture. It really captures the heat of the subject matter.

About the Artist – Marilyn Cook, USA

I have been inspired by so many beautiful, natural places in my travels and try to interpret them into unique wearable art.

I started designing in the 80’s when we visited a Pacific atoll, where they farmed pearls which I used in my jewelry. Later, in Australia, I incorporated topazes and opals into my designs.

In 2003 I settled on St. Croix, USVI, where I used old pottery shards called Chaney found around old Danish sugar plantations in my designs. I still enjoy including these bits of history into my pieces. Certified as an Art Clay Senior Instructor and in PMC, I teach jewelry design, enameling, and metal clay to eager students who want to enlarge their creative world at my studio on the Treasure Coast, Florida. I still continue to be inspired by nature every day.
