A mid-year message from Paula

Apr 18, 2019 | News

It’s been half a year since AMCAW started its journey, and we have so much exciting news to share with you!

We’re 500 Strong
We have almost 500 members now, and by the time you read this, we will probably have hit that magical mark as more members join almost every day.  Over 50 metal clay artists are now volunteering on AMCAW committees, and as a result, there are lots of wonderful projects in the works.

88 Entries Received in Our First Challenge
Our first members-only event, the Flash & Fire Challenge, just closed for entries with 88 entries from artists from seven countries and three continents.  While the jury is hard at work now, the Curating Committee has already planned another competition for fall with a very popular theme.  I can promise that you’ll be eager to work on it this summer (could that be a hint?)

Call for Images: Creating A Spotlight for Your Work
As we work to promote metal clay, we need images of metal clay creations that show just what our exciting medium can do.  It’s your opportunity to step into the spotlight: send us high-quality images of your finest metal clay creations and they could be featured in AMCAW’s promotional efforts. If your image is selected and used, you will be credited as the artist, giving your work exposure to a much broader audience. Get more information on the Call for Images opportunity here.

We have a lot more coming very soon:

  • Learning Center –  the Education Committee is creating a members-only resource for all kinds of information and resources for metal clay artists of all skill levels.  They’re also planning to have general information about metal clay available online for the general public.
  • 2020 Calendar:  We’ll be publishing a limited-edition AMCAW calendar, “Exceptional Work in Metal Clay 2020,” which will have three metal clay images shown on each month’s page, and will include events relevant to metal clay artists. Only AMCAW members may submit an image for consideration.  You’ll also enjoy members-only pricing on this collector’s item. Watch our facebook page for an invitation coming soon to submit images of exceptional metal clay creations for inclusion in the calendar, which will be available for purchase this September.
  • Conference – it’s in the plans for May, 2021.  The Conference committee is still reviewing location proposals, but we’ll have more to share soon.
  • Guilds – Some of you are blessed to have local guilds, but many of us don’t have that opportunity – yet.  The Guild Committee is working on creating a Virtual Guild to which all of us can belong, even if we’re not lucky enough to be located near a local or regional guild.  There’s fun in learning and sharing in a community, so we can’t wait to see this happen!

There’s so much more underway, and you can still be a part of it by joining a committee here (you’ll need to log in as a member).   If you haven’t joined our facebook closed group yet, please join it today – it’s where we publish news first.

Thank you for joining AMCAW in its inaugural year.  As we grow, we look forward to bringing you even more resources, programs, and support.

Paula
